Every golfer knows the feeling. The round is rolling along, the ball is in play, and then you reach a stretch where the fairways tighten and the birdie chances thin out. That’s when planning matters most. You don’t wait until you’re in trouble to make a decision. You play ahead.
At Sugarbush, the calendar works the same way. September through October is strong. But once the leaves fall, the days shorten, and the air turns sharp, the tee sheet slows down. We knew it was coming. So instead of waiting for the dip, we made a plan.
We treated the off-season like a round of golf. If summer is our driver off the tee, then fall and winter are our short game. That’s where the creativity shows. That’s where we hold the score together.
The Playbook
Friday Nights in Davison
It starts under the lights. Friday nights when the Davison Cardinals take the field, our clubhouse fills with energy. We built a simple special — $3 tacos, cold drafts, cocktails — and tied it to every touchdown with our prize wheel. It’s not just about food; it’s about giving people a reason to celebrate together. That’s golf, too. You play your best shots when the group is having fun.
November: The Turkey Shoot
The fairways outside may frost, but inside the simulator, we’ve got our own contest. The Turkey Shoot Challenge — three swings for five bucks, closest to the pin wins the pot. Winners announced on Tuesday. A little competition, a little banter, and just enough suspense to keep players coming back week after week.
Winter Drop-In Leagues
Golfers love structure. We built five formats — Singles, Scrambles, Best Ball, Couples, Ladies. Handicaps based on actual play, weekly skins, points adding up to a March Madness playoff. It’s more than a league. It’s a reason to keep playing when the snow stacks against the door.
Black Friday and Christmas
Every golfer likes a good deal, but the goal here isn’t discounting. It’s commitment.
- Foursome and twosome vouchers priced at our actual paid rounds.
- Simulator bundles that expire in spring.
- Gift cards for Stix, lesson packs for winter improvement, hats for stocking stuffers.
We call it Black Friday and Christmas, but really, it’s a way to lock in the season ahead.
Why We Do It
Golf is a game of momentum. So is running a club. If we let November slide, if we wait until spring to gather again, we lose more than revenue. We lose rhythm.
That’s why this calendar matters. It keeps the doors open, the lights on, and the conversations going. It gives our staff a reason to stay sharp. It gives our community a reason to show up.
It’s like practicing three-foot putts in the dead of winter. It’s not glamorous. It’s not flashy. But when the season returns, you’re ready.
The Follow-Through
We’ve mapped the calendar. The specials, the events, the leagues — they’re set. After Christmas, we’ll circle back and share what happened. The wins, the surprises, the lessons. Because every season, even the off-season, has something to teach us.
At Sugarbush, that’s how we play the game. One shot ahead. One season at a time.
