What Happened

This past weekend, we faced one of those situations you don’t see coming.

A serious septic backup disrupted the clubhouse. Twice.
Once on Saturday, again on Sunday, right in the middle of peak traffic.

Dining rooms were full.
Events were in motion.
Stress was high.

But that’s not the story.

What stood out wasn’t the mess.
It was the people.

Ashley, Leesa, Carl, Ghavin, Eric stepped forward without hesitation.
They stayed late. Cleaned until 3 a.m.
Led calmly under pressure.

They coordinated with plumbers, SERVPRO, and the health department.
They didn’t just manage a crisis.
They protected the standard.


Trust in Action

I wasn’t onsite. I was supporting my son’s former high school golf fundraiser.

But I stayed connected.
And I never had a doubt.

Ashley led the response with care.
The team rallied around her.

No one waited to be told what to do.
They just did it. And they did it right.

That’s trust in action.
That’s leadership in motion.


A Gesture of Gratitude

I talk often about quiet leadership.
About culture over compliance.

This weekend reminded me of something simple.

Systems matter.
People matter more.

So I thanked them the best way I know how.

We made flower arrangements by hand.

My wife and I.

Not from a florist.
For each staff member who stayed, who showed up, who carried the team through.

Because gratitude isn’t just saying thank you.

It’s noticing.
It’s remembering.
It’s showing up for the people who show up for you.


Lessons from a Rough Weekend

1. Gratitude is built, not reactive

You can’t fake it when things go sideways.

The way the team moved. Calm. Focused. Respectful.
That comes from how they’re treated every day.

Sometimes, it’s knowing you don’t have to be.
